Nancy & Shawn at the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece

When in Greece make sure to visit the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens

When we were in Greece during our 1st ever Mediterranean Cruise, we paid a visit to the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens

…the Acropolis is one place you don’t want to miss when in Athens! 🙂

Especially when you consider the fact it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Today we wanted to share with you our experience & show you our Acropolis pictures & video.

Now before we arrived, we had no idea what “Acropolis” even meant. 🙂

Well, it simply means “High City”… and high city is where the Acropolis stands as you can see it from most everywhere in the main part of Athens.

What is the Parthenon you ask?

It is a temple that was erected in honor of the Greek Goddess of Athena… she  was an important icon to the people of Athens, as they built quite the place for her, now known as one of the world’s greatest cultural monuments.

We were there in July and it was super hot… seriously, super hot!

If there during the summer make sure to dress light, bring sunscreen and lots of water to make your day an enjoyable one… and it can get crowded so be patient when getting up and down from there…

…but trust us, it’s totally worth it as the views of the city are pretty amazing as you can see past the city limits and up into the hill sides.

So as you can see…

…visiting the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece is definitely a BIG must.

Oh ya, don’t forget to check out the city below too… Athens has quite the history being one of the oldest cities in the world…

…after all, it created Democracy, Philosophy and of course, the Olympics!

Our favorite place in town to visit was the Plaka area… lots of fun shops, people watching to be had, restaurants, etc.

We chilled out on a quaint little Greek restaurant’s patio and enjoyed some Mythos Beer, Olives, Pita bread, Tzatziki, souvlaki, etc.  Fun!! 🙂
