The Manta Ray Night Snorkel is awesome on the Big Island of Hawaii!

Manta Ray Dives of Hawaii Sign

Honestly, we don’t even know where to begin, we are just lost for words on how to describe our time last night with Manta Ray Dives of Hawaii doing the Manta Ray night snorkel tour!

Most definitely “The” highlight so far of our 5 week trip here in Hawaii… and that’s saying something, as you know, from all the previous Hawaiian adventures we’ve been posting about the last few weeks. (if you didn’t get them in your inbox, then you can sign up here)

We weren’t sure what to expect before we got to the pier, others were a bit nervous too, but as soon as the crew pulled up, friendly with their great sense of humor and invited us aboard, we felt at ease. 🙂

We could tell these guys were very experienced at what they did. Everything was planned out and well organized so that even the most unskilled snorkeler would be comfortable… we liked that and knew we were in for a good time…

…and we were right!

The Manta Ray night snorkel was AMAZING, there were so many mantas swimming around us… someone had described it as similar to watching a ballet, that’s how graceful these creatures were.

When they would circle as close to us as they did, like centimeters away, we felt this inviting “nice to have you here, what took you so long to come see us” kinda feeling.

We’re still trying to grasp the immediate trust and friendship between us and the Mantas, they proudly showed off their awesome swimming abilities and sheer beauty…

It was one of the most incredible experiences we’ve ever had

From the crew and being up close and personal with the Manta Rays, we learned that:

  • Mantas are extremely fast swimmers and considered one of the most graceful as they move
  • They can reach up to 25 feet in length (wingspan) and weigh as much as 5,000 pounds
  • Manta Rays are the largest fish in the waters after whales and sharks
  • They are amazing when it comes to the acrobatics they display in the water…

…have a look at the video we put together for you below using a digital underwater camera.

So, if you’d like to see Manta Rays, consider using Manta Ray Dives of Hawaii when here on the Big Island, they will take very good care of you…
